We’re delighted to announce that we’ve appointed Debbie Ellison, one of our residents, to the Group Board. Debbie joined in March and will also be a member of our Group Housing Services Committee.
She brings a wealth of experience from her many years as a teacher, deputy head, inclusion lead, diversity lead, member of the PTA and chair of parent Governors at a local primary school. Debbie has been a Hyde resident for 21 years.
Debbie has been living in southeast London for the last 33 years and with other residents started the tenants and residents’ association (TRA) on her estate in 2003. It was a roaring success, with homeowners and other Hyde residents from outside the estate eager to be involved. Debbie also introduced a youth TRA, for younger residents aged 8-15, to help them contribute more to their community.
Debbie said: “I’m looking forward to learning more about housing– especially housing legislation, and I think it’s important that I share this knowledge with other Hyde residents, as it will help them understand the processes of housing.
“I’m excited to help serve the wider community and see more of the neighbourhood model roll out, which will ultimately bring Hyde closer to its residents. It’s crucial that we work together – listening more to each other and creating a partnership of mutual respect and understanding.”
Andy Hulme, our Chief Executive Officer, said: “We believe everyone that lives in our homes should have a voice across every area of Hyde, scrutinising the quality of our services and helping us to shape our plans for the future. We’re looking forward to working with Debbie to ensure we continue to provide services to our communities.”
Hyde offers a range of opportunities for residents to be involved in the work we do to scrutinise the quality of services and help to shape plans for the future. Our involved customer group, Customer Voice comprising tenants, leaseholders and shared owners meet regularly, and specific customer steering groups for neighbourhoods, sustainability and asset management, to help shape services.
