We’d like to remind our customers of the importance of staying alert when browsing the internet to protect yourselves from online scams and frauds. Here are some tips for staying safe online:
-
Double check the address of the website you're visiting and make sure it’s spelled correctly. Our website, for example, is https://www.hyde-housing.co.uk
-
Web addresses should start with https:// instead of just http://. The ‘s’ stands for ‘secure’ and indicates the website is using encryption to protect your information
-
Look for trust seals and security icons on the website, such as a padlock icon in the address bar; this tells you the website is verified and secure
-
Be careful when clicking a link or downloading an attachment in an email – always check the email is from a legitimate source. Never click on links or download attachments from unknown or suspicious sources
If you’ve been a victim of a scam, or tricked into sharing information – such as passwords or bank details – you can take immediate steps to protect yourself. Follow the guidance on the National Cyber Security Centre website.
