Work due to start on 160 homes on a former RAF base this summer

Construction of 160 affordable homes on the former site of RAF Upwood, in Bury, Cambridgeshire, will start this summer.

Our contractor Vistry Group will build the mix of one bedroom maisonettes, and two, three, four and five-bedroom houses, on part of the former airbase, which was closed in 1995.

All the energy-efficient homes will have air source heat pumps and electrical vehicle charging points; 74 will be available for social rent and 86 for shared ownership. The homes will be ready in summer 2025.

The scheme includes an RAF-themed play area and a community orchard and part of the site is due to be sold for a specialist dementia care home. Additionally, one of the original RAF buildings will be renovated by Bury Parish Council, becoming a community centre and offices.

Steven Morrice, our Development and Sales Director, said: “We’re really looking forward to realising the vision for the redevelopment of RAF Upwood.

"We’re also working with Huntingdonshire District Council to finalise planning permission to build another 317 homes to the north of this first phase. These will include more social rent and shared ownership homes, as well as some for open market sale.”
