Our Communities team has been working with young residents from Hyde, Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing (MTVH), Clarion Housing to get a better understanding of young residents’ experiences. This is part of a programme led by Partnership for Young London.
Research has highlighted the issues and difficulties young people face in getting their voices heard when it comes to their housing needs. We want to increase youth leadership in housing associations and to make sure young people’s voices are heard when it comes to planning and development in the housing sector.
The young residents are interviewing different departments in their housing associations, with the aim of influencing policy and strategy and taking leadership.
Young Hyde resident, Theresa Okolo, recently came into our head office and interviewed Chief Executive Officer, Andy Hulme and Directors from across the organisation.
Andy said: “We want to support young residents through the challenges they are facing now and, in the future, by ensuring they get their voices heard. This is a fantastic opportunity for housing associations to listen to young residents and for young people to get more involved in decision making across the housing sector.
"It was an absolute pleasure to meet Theresa and hear directly what young people’s concerns are about the future of housing and how they can influence positive change.”
Once the interviews are complete, the research findings will be shared with other housing associations.
