Celebrating three months of community life at The Old Laundry, Stockwell

Posted on 22 November 2023

It’s three months since our celebration to launch The Old Laundry, Stockwell's newly refurbished community centre. To mark the occasion, we've created a video capturing highlights of the event, featuring interviews with the local community and councillors. Check out the video.

Our launch video features Councillor Tina Valcarcel, who said: "A decent place like this, as a mother myself, I'd be happy if my child came here. I know my child is safe. There is space for my child to run around. So for me, I feel excited that we have a place to call home."

The Old Laundry community centre was relaunched after a major refurbishment project. The multi-million pound project included asbestos removal and refurbishing the main community space and offices.

Since the grand launch, activities at The Old Laundry have returned. From Friday night sessions and senior meet-ups, to regular coffee mornings.

Recently, The Old Laundry hosted the Thrive for Life book launch as part of Black History Month’s celebrations, which was attended by hundreds of people from the local community.

Hyde, Stockwell Gardens West Tenants and Residents Association (SGWRA) and Young People Matter (YPM) are working together to develop The Old Laundry into a community centre that delivers a wide range of services and support to the residents of Stockwell.
