Our customers will enjoy warmer winters, cooler summers, and lower energy bills
We’re delighted to announce that our major retrofit programme aimed at improving the energy efficiency of more than 900 homes in Chichester is going well.
Funded by a successful £40m Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund bid by the Greener Futures Partnership (GFP), the programme will provide our customers with the latest energy-saving technologies and upgrades. Of the £40m, we were awarded £6.4m and matched the funding for a total investment of £12.8m.
We’re working with retrofit specialists, Wates Construction, Breyer Group, the AD Group and Purdy to deliver the work, which includes upgrading heating systems, fitting solar panels and radiators, and increasing insulation in walls and lofts. This is as well as improving ventilation, to help reduce the potential for damp, mould and condensation. These measures are designed to help cut energy use and lower carbon emissions. Our customers are also receiving bespoke in-home energy advice, as well as training on how to use the technology effectively.
Luke Driscoll, our Asset Management and Sustainability Director, said: “Our goal is to create greener, more sustainable communities. By retrofitting these homes in Chichester, we’re not only helping our customers reduce their energy bills but also taking significant steps towards our ambition of becoming carbon neutral by 2050.”
Chichester residents, Ray and Susan, are thankful that their home is part of our major home improvement project.
Hyde customer, Ray, who enjoys building radio-controlled boats, said: “I’m really pleased with the work Hyde is carrying out. We’re really looking forward to paying less for energy. We’re thankful to Hyde as they’re doing the work free of charge to customers. I’ve done my research and one of the air source heat pumps retails for more than £4000. Imagine if we had to pay for that - what a great deal for us! It feels great that Hyde is looking out for its customers, especially during a cost-of-living crisis.”
We’re one of the five GFP partners, together with Anchor, Abri, Home Group and Sanctuary. The GFP plans to retrofit more than 5,000 homes, with a total planned investment of more than £90m. The funding, from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, is the third highest allocation at £40.4m.
