Planning application for Phase 7 of Rochester Riverside, our landmark £419m regeneration scheme in Medway in partnership with Countryside, has been approved by Medway Council.
Stretching down to Doust Way, Phase 7 completes the southern end of Rochester Riverside and will provide 154 new homes, ranging from one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom houses. At least 10% of the homes will be for shared ownership. The first completions are expected in summer 2024
Phase 7 will also provide a further section of the 2.5km river walkway that surrounds the development, new public realm and public artwork.
Rochester Riverside, is a new mixed-tenure community of up to 1,400 new homes with a primary school, nursery, a hotel, commercial units, open green spaces, and landscaping. The 12 year project will provide much needed rented and shared ownership homes for the local community.
Phases 1 and 2 of the development have been completed providing 331 new homes a hotel, food and coffee shops. Phase 3 is under construction which will provide 171 new homes, a large waterfront park and new public areas around the famous dockside blue crane, with the first residents expected to move in this summer.
Guy Slocombe, Chief Investment Officer at Hyde, said: “With the first homes at Phase 3 due to be handed over this summer, receiving planning approval for Phase 7 enables us to build on this momentum and everything we've already achieved at Rochester Riverside. This is an outstanding scheme which has already won multiple awards. Not only have we delivered multi-tenure housing, but we have also created a riverside walkway, focused on place, and are building a primary school which when full will cater for 420 pupils. And, with our dedicated management company creating and supporting the growing community, 2022 is set to be an exciting year for the development.”
Andrew Usher, Managing Director, South London, Countryside, said: “We're delighted to have received unanimous planning approval for Phase 7 which will complete the southern quarter of Rochester Riverside and will deliver further much-needed new homes on our sought-after regeneration site. From one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom houses, this varied range of homes will cater to all Medway residents and those further afield looking to make this flourishing location home.”
Leader of Medway Council, Cllr Alan Jarrett, said: “I'm delighted that the award-winning development has been granted planning permission for Phase 7. Rochester Riverside offers residents a great choice of affordable and luxury homes in a fantastic location with excellent facilities for the local community including a new primary school and three new parks which supports our aspiration to make Medway even more child-friendly and a healthy place to live. I look forward to watching the works continue to progress.”
