Moving safely

We’re committed to enhancing the quality of life for our customers – ensuring they live as safely and comfortably as possible. As part of this commitment, we’ve identified a growing need for mobility scooter storage.

Mobility scooters are essential for many of our customers, offering freedom and independence, but the lack of proper storage can be inconvenient and lead to potential safety hazards.

Neighbourhood Officer, Kieran Heather, has been working with our customers living at Gosport Towers. He quickly learned that many customers use mobility scooters and the common theme among them was that they wanted adequate storage.

Danny Chung, Hyde’s Operations Manager for Gosport, said:

“Through our Neighbourhoods and Specialist Housing service, we’re strengthening our connections with the customers and communities we serve.

Wanting to provide adequate mobility scooter storage is testament to that – providing accessible and energy efficient facilities, designed to suit the diverse needs of our customers.

“We identified that some of our garages were underused and came up with a design to convert them. We’ve now created a storage area that’s fit for purpose.”

Dedicated safe scooter storage

The project took just over three months to complete and has significantly improved the lives of our customers. The work was carried out at no cost to them.

Gosport resident Mick, who is 83, has been living in his Hyde home for more than 30 years. He is happy that he’s able to store and charge his mobility scooter in one place.

He said: “I’m really happy with the new scooter storage space. Before I was charging my scooter on the ground floor and storing on the third – so it’s great to be able to do it all in one place. And Kieran is lovely. He’s been a great addition to the towers.”

The new units feature 22 spaces, equipped with charging ports.
Kieran started as the Neighbourhood Officer for Gosport in January, following the launch of our Neighbourhoods and Specialist Housing.
Through this service, we’re improving our services and becoming closer to our customers and the communities we serve.
