A huge congratulations to Hyde’s team of walkers who took part in the 20th anniversary 10k London Legal Walk
Our team of 46 walkers, from across Hyde, proudly walked with the Lady Chief Justice and joined over 18,000 lawyers and their colleagues from over 1,000 organisations to raise funds for the London Legal Support Trust.
On 18 June, walkers started off next to the Royal Courts of Justice and then took in St James’ Park, Green Park and Hyde Park before heading back down to The Mall, past Trafalgar Square, and along the Stand to a final street part on Carey Street.
Over the last 20 years, by walking together for justice, an incredible £10.5 million has been raised, helping hundreds of thousands of people to access justice when they need it most.
The annual London Legal Walk is the biggest fundraising event in aid of free legal advice and support for everything from law centres and Citizens Advice services to refugee specialist support services.
Hyde Housing Lawyer, Emily Giles, organised the Hyde team.
She said: “I’m so proud of my colleagues – taking on 10K for justice in support of those who need life-changing free legal advice. Over 13.4 million people live in poverty in the UK and advice providers are at breaking point. Many can’t afford legal help and we believe everybody should have access to justice and be able to receive legal advice and representation.
“With the ongoing cost of living crisis, receiving proper legal advice at the right time is even more important than ever. It can make a huge difference to people's lives reducing their chances of facing debt, poverty, homelessness, exploitation and discrimination.
“This is such an important cause supporting over 100 charities in London and the South East providing free legal advice to vulnerable people.”
