A warm thank you to Sea Containers Hotel

Working together, we distributed nearly 2,000 items of bedding.

The ground floor of our Head Office has recently been home to bed linen, quilts and pillows and all for a very good cause.

This all came about because our Fundraising Manager, Nimi Shephard-Patel, was chatting about some of the issues our customers face – including simply not having adequate bedding – with a friend who is manager of the Sea Containers Hotel in London.

Shortly afterwards, the hotel had a bedding stock refresh. As a result of Nimi’s conversation, the hotel then offered Hyde Charitable Trust a hotel’s worth of bedding (much of it unused) for recycling through our charity partners.

Altogether we received and recycled over 1,900 items of bedding, including pillows, duvets and bed linen, equating to over £25,000.

Nimi said: “Sadly, by working closely with our partners from schools to food banks, we know that more and more people, including children, don’t have a warm bed to sleep in. We can’t thank Sea Containers enough for helping us. By working together, the hotel was able to save bedding from going to landfill and we were able to facilitate the distribution of their stock.”

The Pilion Trust in Islington is one of our partners who have benefited. Savvas Panas, the Pilion Trust’s CEO said:

“The hotel bedding donation arrived this week and I was totally overwhelmed by how much stuff came off the van. Nearly everything has gone – all we have left are a few pillows and a couple of duvets.

“Please pass on my thanks and appreciation to Sea Containers Hotel and to Hyde for making all the arrangements. We have a large number of people finally sleeping warmly this week.”
