Black History Month is time to celebrate the history, achievements and contributions of black people in the UK.
This year’s theme, ‘Saluting our Sisters’, created an opportunity for us to focus on the role black women have played in influencing change in the workplace. At Hyde we’re working to build a workplace where every employee feels valued, respected and can be their true self.
Throughout the month, our employee diversity and inclusion resource group, Embrace, organised a variety of activities for staff to get involved in, including:
- Sponsoring a film screening and networking event with Unify
- An online career talk with Aspire, our women's employee resource group
- "Sisters in the Spotlight" - celebrating the amazing achievements of some of our black, asian and minority ethnic team members
- A “Brunch with our Sisters” where Bell Ribeiro-Addy MP shared her story of sisterhood
We also welcomed a new Embrace Chair Venessa Denny and Co-chair Shivani Patel this month, who led on these activities.
Venessa, Senior Assistant Company Secretary and Chair of Embrace said: “This year’s Black History Month and the theme 'Saluting our Sisters' have been great for informing everyone on what black women have achieved, and shining the spotlight to some of our Hyde women.
I'm really proud to be a part of the Embrace group and take on the role of the new Chair. The outgoing co-chairs and team have done an amazing job and I look forward to what lies ahead.”
Thank you to everyone involved and to our Embrace executive sponsor Rod Holdsworth and Hyde Group Chair, Mike Kirk.
