It was eyes down and certainly a full house for the Bingo Club’s return to the refurbished Old Laundry. Friday night (5 May) was the club’s first meeting at the cleaner, brighter Old Laundry since having temporarily moved to Morley College while the refurbishment work was taking place.
Over thirty members of the club were welcomed by our Chief Executive Officer, Andy Hulme, and colleagues including our local Community and Engagement Manager.
Local resident Babs or ‘Bingo Babs’ as she’s fondly known, organises the club, and said that she was happy and excited to be in the new space.
Andy Hulme said:
“The Old Laundry is central to the local community at Stockwell and it’s brilliant to welcome back the Bingo Club. Bingo returning to the Old Laundry is a huge milestone as the club is really important to our older residents. Some have played bingo on the estate for over 50 years and we know how much of a valuable lifeline it is.
“I can’t wait to throw the doors open to all the groups that use the Old Laundry and welcome the community back.”
The work to the Old Laundry has included asbestos removal, as well as other improvements such as refurbishing the main community space, the Young People Matter offices and landscaping the outside.
Work is expected to finish at the end of May 2023.
