We held our first ever ‘golf day’ and raised a tee-rific £16,000 for Hyde Charitable Trust (HCT).
It was time for our social value partners to put(t) away their laptops and take to the fairway for our fundraising golf day, held on 8 June at Farleigh Golf Club, Warlingham. Despite the warm weather, our 14 golf teams completed 18 holes of golf each – helped by Martin Arnold, who sponsored the drinks buggy.
Money was raised by teams donating to HCT to take part in the event, and by sponsoring individual holes.
As well as demonstrating their excellent golfing skills, our players chipped in over £2,000 through bidding generously on auction items donated by our community partners. Donations included everything from community cooking by the Felix Project (London) to bags made from recycled sails from Oarsome Chance (Gosport).
Teetopin, who helped with the day’s arrangements, also gifted two fourballs for the auction which raised £600. Louis Fordham from Orbis donated a golf bag which made a wonderful £120.
A huge thank you to Hyde’s Fundraising Manager, Nimi Shephard Patel, who organised the day, working with our Social Value team, Chichi Onyenemelu and Ciara Sidhu, to make it possible.
Nimi said: “What better way to spend a day than playing golf, knowing that all profits will go direct to HCT. All of the funds raised through sales will be used to support our most vulnerable customers.
“Supporting our customers is more important than ever during these challenging times. It could be through offering our customers financial advice and support, or boosting our community partners who provide vital services including delivering essential food supplies and providing places to stay warm.”
Steve Tuhey from Thakeham was the individual winner of the day with an incredible 45 points. The winning team was CLM Fireproofing with an excellent 97 points.
One of our golfers, Andy McGuckin from Integrated Water Services, said: “I just wanted to say a huge ‘thank you’ for the excellent golf day. The organisation and friendliness from start to finish were second to none.
“The drive back to Leeds on Thursday evening was a bit of a struggle, but well worth it.”
Partners included our headline sponsor TBrown and individual hole sponsors CLM Fire Proofing, Ian Williams, Kinovo, Mount Anvil and Martin Arnold.
