If you’re worried that you’re in arrears, please let us know.

What happens when you get in touch?

If you contact us early, we can look at:

  • Setting up a simple, manageable repayment plan
  • Accessing additional income or benefits you didn’t realise you could claim
  • Getting you practical help and support to reduce financial pressure

There’s support available now

Some of the ways we can help you make the most of your income and reduce costs are:

  • Benefit checks (including Universal Credit and Housing Benefit), to make sure you’re getting everything you’re entitled to
  • Budgeting support tailored to you, so you’re making every penny matter
  • Accessing grants, funding and other financial help you may be able to get
  • Employment and training support opportunities. All Hyde customers can access our free career coaching service, ‘Stay Nimble’, whether you’re looking for that first job, or you’re out of work
  • Using the support and advice on our website. Our Helping Hand pages include money management and advice on energy bills. All Hyde customers can also access the ‘National Support Network’, a free platform for help with any of life’s challenges.

Katerina Birkeland, Hyde’s Customer Accounts Director, said:

“Many customers find that even a small gap in payments can grow quickly over time. Avoiding the issue can make things harder, but one conversation can start to turn things around.

“By talking to us now, we can work with you to avoid a bigger issue further down the line. For example, some customers increase payments by just a little each week or month to help bring their accounts up to date.

“We also know that life can take unexpected turns. If your circumstances have changed, please let us know. We can help you find a way forward before things become more difficult.

“We’re here to support you and work with you every step of the way. Taking that small step today can make a big difference later.”

Taking the next step

If you’re worried you’re falling behind on your rent account, please contact us today. We’ll listen and work with you to agree a plan that feels manageable and works for you.

There are other things that can help too. For example:

  • Give your finances a health check - If you’re worried about making money work, why not create a spending plan. It’s straightforward and you can get the whole family involved.
  • If you haven’t already, set up a Direct Debit for easy rent payments - Paying your rent by Direct Debit means no more missed deadlines or reminders. You can pay weekly, fortnightly or monthly – you can even choose which date the payment comes out on. You can set up a Direct Debit in just a couple of minutes, using your payment reference number.
  • Don’t forget to sign up for Housing Perks - Designed especially for housing association residents, Housing Perks helps you save money which can then be put towards your rent arrears by simply shopping, going for a coffee or having a family day out.
