Monday 3 August

We'd like to apologise to our customers at Luke House for the issues that they've been experiencing with their water supply.

Our teams are onsite to restore the water supply as soon as possible. We're also checking in on all customers, and we've provided large amounts of bottled water too.

Our local office and the Tarling Community Centre are open for any customers that need somewhere to go. We'll continue to regularly communicate with customers to ensure that everybody is kept updated.

Tackling tenancy fraud

If you think a home is being used wrongly, tell us. You don’t need proof or evidence. Just let us know what you’ve seen and we’ll look into it.

What is tenancy fraud?

Tenancy fraud is when a Hyde home is being used in a way that breaks the tenancy agreement. This can include someone living there without permission, the tenant no longer using it as their main home or the home being used in a way that is not allowed.

It can happen in a lot of different ways, including:

  • Subletting a Hyde home without permission
  • Using a Hyde home as a holiday let, such as Airbnb
  • Moving out without telling us
  • Having people living in the home without permission
  • Squatting
  • Trying to pass on a tenancy without permission.

Every home matters. When one is being used fraudulently, it can stop it going to people and families who need it most. We do everything we can to spot tenancy fraud, but we also need you to let us know when something’s not right so we can look into it.

What to look out for

You know your homes and neighbourhood better than anyone. If something feels unusual and you let us know, it might help us spot possible tenancy fraud.

Please tell us if you notice things like:

  • A tenant not being seen for a long time
  • Different people regularly coming and going
  • Short-term visitors arriving with luggage
  • A home that doesn’t look lived in
  • Key safes in unusual places
  • Post building up or not being collected
  • Bins always empty or often overflowing.

Here’s a case study about an instance of tenancy fraud that we successfully resolved.

How to report a concern

If something doesn’t seem right, tell us. You don’t need to be sure, and you don’t need to collect evidence. We’ll look into it.

You can report a concern through MyAccount or call us on 0800 3 282 282.

Tell us what you have seen, when you noticed it and where it happened. This helps us understand the concern and we can pass it to the right team.

What happens after you report it

We’ll log what you tell us and review it. If there’s something to look into, our Tenancy Management team will carry out checks, visits and evidence gathering before deciding what action to take.

We also have a dedicated Tenancy Fraud Officer, who advises on what action to take for cases and looks into more complex issues.

If you need help with your tenancy

If you are struggling with your tenancy, or you need to be away from your home for a while, please speak to us as early as you can. We can talk through this with you, discuss your options and explain what you need to do. It’s always better to talk to us before a problem becomes harder to sort out.
