What is a smart meter?

Smart meters are the new generation gas and electricity meters which are being rolled out nationally over the next four years.

What do smart meters do?

Smart meters measure the gas and electricity you are using and display this in near real time on a handy portable screen. They also send automatic meter readings to your energy supplier.

Why do I need a smart meter?

It means the end of estimated bills. No more having to read the meter or trying to work out your bill. No more strangers coming into your home for meter readings. Once you have a smart meter, you’ll only get accurate bills from your energy supplier, just as you do with your phone bill.

How much will the smart meter cost me?

Smart meters do not cost you anything and will be installed without charge by your energy supplier.
