Our supply chain partners play a key role in creating places where people want to live and thrive
Our supply chain partners delivered £9.5m in social value contributions last year, up from £1.8m the year before. This huge increase was the result of more suppliers, with larger contracts, supporting social value projects.
“Securing more commitments meant we could deliver more projects and benefit more people – we estimate about 62,000 were positively impacted by social value contributions,” explained Hyde Communities and Social Impact Director, Felicity Hunt.
“These contributions included offering jobs, apprenticeships, work placements and mentoring, suppliers’ staff volunteering, financial donations and project sponsorship.”
One community partner to benefit last year was the Tarner Community Project in Brighton. The charity provides children with meals as part of its after school and holiday clubs, and a big increase in demand meant its kitchen wasn’t coping.
Tarner Community Project asked for help through the Match My Project platform. One of our subcontractors, Highbank Property Services, offered to strip out and replace the kitchen, using units and equipment supplied by Buildbase and Symphony Kitchens. Electrical work was carried out by our in-house property maintenance team.
Sarah Perryman, Community Partnerships Manager at the Tarner Community Project, said: “So far, we’ve provided over 13,000 free hot dinners to children and this number is going to increase. It’s not only important to the children in our community – but to their families. Knowing children can come here and have a hot meal means the world to them.”
