Riverside Court residents honoured for shaping community life

Residents and Hyde colleagues at Riverside Court, a later living scheme in Tonbridge, came together for a special coffee morning to celebrate the lives of three residents whose kindness and community spirit left a lasting mark on Riverside Court.

During the event, memorial plaques were unveiled on three benches in honour of residents Len Harvey, Brian Ward and Betty Humphrey, recognising the contributions they gave to Riverside Court.

The benches reflect the many ways residents have helped shape life at Riverside Court, from supporting local causes to organising social activities and creating spaces for neighbours to come together.

Len was part of the residents’ committee and supported community activities and charitable causes with his wife Sylvia. Brian helped found the Riverside Court Residents’ Society and served as Chair for eight years. Betty helped organise many events and was known for the warmth and humour she brought to life in the community.

The benches are now part of Riverside Court’s shared spaces, offering a lasting reminder of the role that customers can play in their communities.

Emmanuella Edokpa, Hyde’s Neighbourhood and Tenancy Services Director, said:

“The contributions Len, Brian and Betty gave to Riverside Court are great examples of what can happen when customers are supported to play an active role in their community. The coffee morning was a chance to celebrate that spirit and recognise how residents, alongside Hyde, can create welcoming, friendly places to live.”
