Delivering thousands of affordable homes
We've been appointed as a strategic partner with Homes England for the government's Social and Affordable Homes Programme
This means we’ve been allocated almost £350m to deliver 2,250 new homes outside of London, as part of the first £10bn of funding under the government’s ten-year Social and Affordable Homes Programme.
Andy Hulme, Group Chief Executive of the Hyde Group, said:
“We're pleased to be appointed as a strategic partner to Homes England and welcome the government’s commitment to delivering more genuinely affordable, and good quality homes.
“This funding rightly supports a significant increase in new homes for social rent, which we strongly welcome. We see the impact on people every single day of not having a permanent home, through the uncertainty and anxiety it causes.
"This is great news for people in need of a home, for communities looking to thrive and for growth in the wider economy.”
Andy said: “The focus on delivering through housing associations and local councils would support better partnerships, and help to move tens of thousands of children and their families out of temporary accommodation.
“It’s right that local councils play a full role in tackling the housing crisis. We have strong relationships with local authorities up and down the country and are already supporting them with housing delivery and regeneration.”
He added: "This announcement is very positive, but it remains vitally important that we continue to work to remove barriers to deliver homes, such as delays in the planning system, and give charitable providers like Hyde long-term certainty and appropriate resources.
“That said, the biggest housing crisis we have is around the lack of affordable homes and the use of temporary accommodation. There’s not a vulnerable household or person in the country that wouldn’t benefit from high-quality, affordable housing.”
We’re one of 33 strategic partners announced by Homes England and the government that will help deliver a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ generational increase in social and affordable homes across England.
As one of the largest delivery partners for affordable homes across London and the South East we’re currently on site building 7,000 homes.
We also work closely with the Greater London Authority to deliver the affordable homes programme in London. We look forward to the announcement of its allocations in the near future, so we can bring more affordable homes for the capital.
