We’re installing moisture busting fans in homes to beat damp, mould and condensation
One of our priorities is making sure that you are safe and comfortable in your home. This can be even trickier in colder months, as problems with damp, mould and condensation (DMC) increase.
To combat DMC, ventilation is essential - it’s vital that air circulates. We’re now installing new fans in homes – with the aim of increasing ventilation and absorbing moisture.
These fans will be going into homes when we replace kitchens or bathrooms (so they will go in both kitchens and bathrooms). They will also go into empty homes, ready for new customers and installed when we’re carrying our repairs if we’re aware of any damp and mould issues.
How do the fans work?
The fans are smart fans – they log data, knowing that if there is added moisture in the air, they automatically go on ‘boost’. They boost their power if any condensation is measured.
The fans are on constantly, but very cheap to run, and only measure 10” by 12”. But, they’re so powerful that they will work for the whole home.
They work in the same way as a Dyson vacuum, using centrifugal force – expelling dirty air outside, with no need for filters. This means we don’t need to go back and change any parts.
We can check the data when installed – checking how many times the fan needs to go to full boost – meaning excessive condensation levels have been detected. We then know that we need to investigate.
Steve Austin, Hyde’s Head of Property Maintenance London, said:
“These fans will be essential in the winter months – and really can make a huge difference in terms of tackling damp, mould and condensation. Not only do they meet our requirements in helping to beat DMC, but they are also cost effective and easy to maintain – for both Hyde and our customers.”
