We’re updating community facilities and building social rent homes

Work is well underway on our project to update and expand the facilities at Kennington Park Community Centre (KPCC), and to build eight flats for social rent, following unanimous planning approval from Lambeth Council last year.

Formation Design & Build started work in January 2026, clearing out the buildings, carrying out surveys and finalising designs for the project, which includes refurbishing the main community centre building.

  • The main hall’s lighting and audio visual equipment will be updated to meet the needs of creative groups that use it, as well as making it a great venue for parties, meetings and conferences
  • The community room will be extended, making it more suitable for meetings and other activities and so the centre can accommodate more than one group at a time
  • The centre’s toilets will be rebuilt, there’ll be a larger kitchen and we’ll renovate all the other rooms in the building. We’ll also be replacing fire doors and improving the building’s energy efficiency
  • The community centre’s courtyard will be landscaped, and we’ll plant more trees, plus it will be levelled off to improve access.

We’ll also be replacing one of the buildings with a new community café and activity space, with eight social rent flats above. These homes will be for local people. Lambeth has the largest housing register of any local authority in London, with more than 25,000 households waiting for a home.

“Communities are just as important as the homes we build,” said Andy Hulme, Group Chief Executive of the Hyde Group.

“Kennington Park Community Centre provides vital services for the local area. By modernising and futureproofing the centre, we’ll ensure it continues to meet local community needs for many years to come.

“I’d like to thank our property consultant Carter Jonas and Fuse Architects for their hard work in helping us to get planning approval.”

The project is expected to be completed in Spring 2027
