Sustainability SHIFT

Posted on 21 March 2022

We’ve signed up to SHIFT, the social housing sustainability accreditation scheme, to help benchmark and measure our sustainability performance.

“The SHIFT sustainability standard is designed specifically for the social housing sector,” explained Diana Lock, Hyde’s Energy and Sustainability Manager. “It assesses environmental impact across 21 categories, including carbon dioxide emissions, water use, landfill waste, biodiversity and response to climate risks.”

SHIFT will also help us check our progress against our long term targets, assessing the sustainability of:

  • The homes and properties we own and manage
  • The new homes we build
  • Our offices and operations
  • Our supply chain, in particular our maintenance activities.

“SHIFT will also assess our commitment to sustainability through our leadership and strategy, and enable us to demonstrate our environmental credentials to partners, funders, staff, regulators and customers alike,” Lock added. “We’ll be awarded bronze, silver, gold or platinum rating based on our performance but more importantly, SHIFT will help us to reduce our environmental impact.”

Neal Ackcral, Chief Property Officer, added: “I’m delighted we’re joining SHIFT. We’ve made a lot of progress over the past three years, which has included launching both the Greener Futures Partnership and our Environmental, Social and Governance framework in 2021. This means we’re in a good place to meet our objective of creating great homes that are safe, decent and sustainable.”
