Above and beyond the building works

Strong partnership working between Hyde and Wates at Propeller Crescent and Purley Way in Waddon, has led to the completion of vital building safety works, with a truly customer-driven approach.

Wates Construction Ltd. showed how dedicated they are to customer satisfaction while working on the external walls of the high-rise flats. As a thank you to customers for their resilience and support, Wates organised a playground clean up day, with ice cream! As well as a drawing competition for local schoolchildren, and more.

Henriette Hunniche, our Senior Major Fire Project Manager, said:

“Making sure our homes are safe goes beyond the physical work. At Hyde, we strive to foster relationships within our communities. We want our customers to feel proud of the places they call home.

“We’re pleased to have worked with a contractor that understood our priority. Wates were fantastic during this project. They were so engaging with our customers. They got to know individuals, they communicated well and kept them engaged, and they made provision for all customer groups and vulnerabilities.”

Wates also managed regular waste removal and decluttering, which encouraged customers to do the same. They organised a litter picking initiative.

They made sure there were extra parking spaces while the work was being carried out. The impact on residents’ lives was considered at every step, and communication remained excellent throughout.

Chetan Kanchan, Hyde customer, said:

“I’m very satisfied with how Hyde and Wates communicated with us about the fire safety works at our block. The project team regularly provided status updates via monthly resident project and newsletters. They were always on hand and happy to answer questions.

“I regularly attended the meetings and found the information shared relevant and useful. We were always given the opportunity to ask questions. I also used the dedicated page on Hyde’s website to get further updates.

“Hyde and Wates did a good job. My family and I are pleased with the finished result and feel safe in our home. We also enjoyed the ice cream afternoon that the team put on during the summer. It’s nice to see companies working together to the benefit of their customers.”

Mark Craig, Regional Director at Wates, said:

"I'm immensely proud of the social value initiatives we implemented at Propeller Crescent and Purley Way for the Hyde Group that involved engagement with the local community and school.

"Our commitment to community enrichment has not only transformed these spaces but has also contributed significantly to the well-being of residents by helping create a space where everyone can enjoy. We've demonstrated that construction projects can drive positive change, leaving a legacy far beyond bricks and mortar.”

Propeller Crescent and Purley Way is a high-rise block estate, comprising a mix of 96 rented and shared ownership flats. The work involved remediating the brickwork, zinc cladding, render and insulation on the four tower blocks, as part of a fire safety remediation project, feeding into our Building Safety Programme.
