Buildings insurance

In most instances, we are obliged to insure the buildings that leaseholders and shared owners live in and you pay us for providing this cover. If there is a managing agent for your property they may provide this insurance so please check with them for confirmation. If you are unsure who insures your property please contact us.

Insuring your personal possessions

Please note: We do not insure the contents of your home and you should make your own arrangements to protect your personal possessions.

Why might the cost of my building insurance gone up in my service charge statement?

The cost of buildings insurance increased nationwide in 2020. This increase was due to a number of factors including:

  • The impact of the coronavirus
  • A reduction in insurer capacity, which means it’s been harder and more expensive to find insurance
  • Increased risks associated with things like building safety.

Home insurance

Why do I need it?

If you are a tenant who rents, it is unlikely your landlord will cover your contents as part of the tenancy agreement. It’s a good idea to consider what a home contents insurance policy would cover you for in order to help you make an informed decision on whether you need one.

Contents insurance is designed to help protect your possessions. No matter how careful you are, there’s always a risk that your belongings could be broken, damaged or stolen.

To help you decide whether home contents insurance is right for you, The Hyde Group teamed up with Thistle Tenant Risks, and Great Lakes Insurance UK Limited who provide the My Home Contents Insurance Scheme, a Tenants Contents Insurance policy designed for tenants living in social housing.

The My Home Contents Insurance Scheme can offer you insurance for the contents of your home including cover for items such as furniture, carpets, curtains, clothes, bedding, electrical items, jewellery, pictures and ornaments.
