Work has started on the construction of 306 homes on the northern part of the former Sackville Road Trading Estate in Hove.

There will be 183 homes for council rent, which will be let to people in housing need on the city’s housing register. Additionally, 123 shared ownership homes will be available through Hyde.

The homes will be highly energy-efficient, using solar PV panels to reduce energy costs for residents, who will also receive subsidised bus and rail passes, bike vouchers, Beryl bike credit and/or car club membership, to encourage use of sustainable travel.

There will also be new car club bays, electric vehicle charge points and extensive cycle parking. Proposals include landscaped courtyards with doorstep play equipment, seating and community growing space, together with access to Hove Central’s shops and offices.

The homes are expected to be completed by March 2029.
