We’re pleased to confirm that a London-based housing association, Arhag, will be joining the Hyde Group from 1 April 2026.

We let customers know at the beginning of January, that a consultation was being carried out with Arhag customers about the proposal.

Today (4 March 2026), the Boards of Arhag Housing Association and The Hyde Group are announcing the decision to go ahead. This means Arhag will join the Hyde Group from 1 April 2026.

There will be no changes to services for existing Hyde customers because of this decision, and Hyde customers weren’t part of the consultation for this reason.

The decision to go ahead follows the consultation with Arhag customers, as well as careful checks carried out by Hyde and independent advisers on the financial parts of the proposal.

For Hyde, growing the organisation is a key part of our strategy to be able to invest more in Hyde customers’ homes and services over the long-term. Arhag joining the Group supports this aim.

Andy Hulme, Group Chief Executive at the Hyde Group, commented:

"I’m delighted that both Boards have agreed to go ahead, after consulting with Arhag’s customers. Throughout the process so far, we’ve found a real alignment of purpose between the organisations, which is routed in putting customers first.

We look forward to welcoming Arhag customers into the Hyde Group.”

Anne McLoughlin, Interim Chief Executive Officer at Arhag, said:

“This move provides Arhag with stability and the opportunity to provide customers with a stronger and better service. We share a commitment with Hyde to work closely with customers and communities, and I’m excited about the benefits Hyde will be able to offer.

“I want to thank all those customers who took part in the consultation exercise. We’ve listened to the feedback and our Board studied this closely when making the decision to go ahead.”

Arhag provides just under 1,000 homes across London, with the majority located in the boroughs of Newham, Tower Hamlets and Haringey. The organisation was formed in 1979 as a response to the housing needs of refugees from Africa.

Like many housing associations, the financial pressures of recent years mean Arhag needs the support of a strong partner in Hyde to continue delivering safe, decent homes and good quality services for its customers.

Arhag will join Hyde as a subsidiary. The consultation also invited customers to share their views on the proposal to complete a Transfer of Engagements; the legal process used to transfer Arhag’s assets, liabilities and responsibilities into the new group structure. It is expected that this will take place within six months.
