Small London housing association considers joining Hyde

We wanted to let customers know about a proposal for a small London-based housing association to join the Hyde Group.

Arhag Housing Association provides just under 1,000 homes in London, including in Tower Hamlets and other boroughs where Hyde operates. It’s opened a consultation with its customers on a proposal to join Hyde.

Hyde customers aren’t part of the consultation, which runs until 13 February, as there are no changes to services they receive, and there’s no proposed change to who their landlord is.

Following consultation, the proposal will see Arhag join Hyde as a subsidiary. This provides Arhag with stability and the opportunity to continue delivering our shared vision of a great home for everyone.

Arhag was formed in 1979 as a response to the housing needs of refugees from Africa.

Like many housing associations, the financial pressures of recent years mean Arhag needs the support of a strong partner in Hyde to continue delivering safe, decent homes and good quality services for its customers.

Andy Hulme, Group Chief Executive at the Hyde Group, commented:

“We’ve always respected and admired the work that Arhag delivers to London communities. Our organisations share missions to improve the lives and opportunities of the customers we serve.

“We think by welcoming Arhag and its customers into the Group, we can improve homes and services, and offer a strong local presence in neighbourhoods. With many of the homes being in areas we already serve, there are lots of obvious benefits from working together.

“There will be no impact on services, or extra costs, for Hyde customers if this proposal goes ahead.

“As we’ve set out in the Hyde Group Strategic Plan 2030, a key part of our strategy to be able to invest more in Hyde customers’ homes and services is to grow our income. This proposal helps support that objective.”

Once the consultation closes and the feedback has been considered, the Boards of each organisation will consider the next steps. We’ll share more updates with Hyde customers when we have them.
