Welcome back to the Minerva Community Centre
Our community centre in Bethnal Green has now officially reopened
To mark a year since Tower Hamlets Community Housing (THCH) joined the Hyde Group, we’ve reopened the newly refurbished Minerva Community Centre and welcomed the community back into the improved space.
The reopening follows improvement work carried out as part of our wider investment in the area since last April. The centre has been fully redecorated with new flooring, a new kitchen and new bathrooms.
Community groups, customers and staff came together to celebrate the reopening, enjoying food, music and plenty of activities for families. Customers could also get help from staff with MyAccount and speak to their local Neighbourhoods team.
Local resident Mandy Horne said: “I’ve come here with my children. They’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve grown up round here my whole life so it’s nice to see my children doing the same.”
Resident of Lysander House, Stephanie Preston added: “I’ve also lived in most of these flats around here and it’s nice to see all the community get together.”
We’ve invested over £1 million in community centres in Tower Hamlets. This is part of our commitment to invest £60 million over the first five years of THCH joining Hyde . We’ve now completed works on the Tarling East, Minerva and Zander Court centres and works for two smaller community spaces (Wodeham Gardens and Hanbury Street) are due to finish soon.
Group Chief Executive of the Hyde Group, Andy Hulme, said:
“The reopening of the Minerva Community Centre is another important step in strengthening our local presence in Tower Hamlets and supporting the people who live here.
By investing in centres like this, we’re making sure the places that bring people together and offer practical support close to home get the investment they deserve.
It’s great to see the community enjoying the centre again and we’re looking forward to working with our partners to make the most of the space.”
A special thank you to contractors and partners Ian Williams, Pinnacle, Alphatrack, SCCI, RGE and Glyphics, for their work on the project.
