Tower Hamlets celebrates the re-opening of fresh look Tarling East Community Centre

The Tower Hamlets community welcomed back their newly refurbished Tarling East Community Centre with an action-packed celebratory event.

From balloon making to face painting, and from candy floss to sports activities featuring Hyde basketballs, there was something for everybody to enjoy. The aim was for the community to tour the centre, join in with community user groups, meet Hyde and Tower Hamlets Community Housing (THCH) colleagues, play games and get involved.

The afternoon was a great way for community partners to showcase their work, and activities included taekwondo and boxing taster sessions. Jubilee Street Practice carried out wellbeing checks on residents and the rhythmic sounds and vibrant colours of the Bollywood Brass Band added to the celebratory atmosphere.

Hyde’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Andy Hulme, marked the re-opening with the cutting of a special ‘Welcome back’ cake.

He said: “I was thrilled to be part of this wonderful afternoon. It was not only an opportunity to celebrate with local residents, but I’ve loved seeing how Hyde, THCH, Pinnacle and contractors have worked together to bring the community centre a brand new look and feel.

“We’re carrying out major renovation work across most of the community centres previously managed by THCH and Tarling demonstrates how we’re not just investing in housing, but communities. Thanks to Hyde Foundation, we’re able to carry out community investment work locally– providing funding and support and strengthening our partnerships with local community organisations in Tower Hamlets.

“I know that the centre is going to help us work even better locally and I’m looking forward to everybody enjoying and using the newly refurbished space.”

Works are currently underway at Minerva and Zander Court Community Centres, and will be completed by December 2025.
