UKHarvest is a food rescue and education charity, that works across West Sussex. The charity collects food that would have gone to waste from supermarkets, restaurants and manufacturers, then works with communities to distribute it elsewhere and fight food insecurity.

We’re excited to announce that we’re continuing to work with UKHarvest - Hyde Charitable Trust (HCT) is supporting the charity with funding of £21,000 towards their community food hub operation. The funding has come from HCT’s Communities Fund, which supports existing partners working in our communities.

The food hubs are a vital part of UKHarvest’s operation, enabling rescued food to reach the homes of those in need. The hubs are available to all, providing access to affordable food, low-cost cooking skills, and support on a range of social issues. No referral is needed - all anybody needs is a bag and a suggested donation of £5. HCT co-funded the food hub manager role – along with Clarion and West Sussex County Council – who oversees the running of all the hubs.

Sarah Owen, our Projects and Partnerships Manager, said: “We’re delighted to be able to continue to support UKHarvest. This funding will go towards the community food hubs which run across Chichester – many of the food hubs are in our communities. Food security is an issue for many families. The support given by UKHarvest via its food repurposing and redistribution work not only goes a long way towards supporting our customers and other families, but helps the planet too.”

Yvonne Thomson, CEO at UKHarvest said:

"Hyde has supported UKHarvest in so many areas of our operations. Colleagues from Hyde have visited the community food hubs, our warehouse, and even taken part in our ‘Cooking for a Cause’ days to experience first hand what we do on a daily basis to support communities.

“This generous grant is received with such gratitude and we can't wait to see what more we can do with Hyde. Thank you so much to Hyde colleagues for working so closely with our team to ensure that we can continue rescuing surplus food and enabling it to reach households.”

One of our Neighbourhood Officers, Marcelo De Castro, said: “The food hubs are such friendly environments. They’ve been great for the Neighbourhoods team as they’re inclusive places to drop in and meet customers. And, customers find it useful to know that we’ll be there. It’s a great partnership.”
