Help where it’s needed most
Grants awarded by Hyde Charitable Trust helped about 23,500 people in 2024-25
Hyde Charitable Trust (HCT) awarded nearly £1m in grants to community partners and customers last year, including £406k to help about 240 Hyde customers with food, energy bills, and buying appliances and other things for their home.
“Emergency food and shopping vouchers were the single most requested support we provided in 2024-25, with 1,054 vouchers worth £77k given to customers, which is equivalent to about 11,400 days of food,” said Felicity Hunt, Hyde Group Director of Communities and Social Impact.
“We also gave £25k to customers to help them pay their energy bills, to help them with the rising cost of gas and electricity.
“This support meant households could afford other living costs, preventing further crises and reducing the risk of customers getting into more debt.”
Help to buy cooking, washing and refrigeration appliances was the second most requested support by customers, and we paid for 368 items. The cost of not being able to store, prepare and cook food, or do laundry at home, can be significant; customers saved about £550k last year.
HCT also awarded £512k in grants to community partners in 2024-25, helping them to run projects preventing homelessness, projects supporting aspirations, choice and employability, and projects connecting communities.
“We estimate that 23 people received one-to-one support every day in 2024-25, either through Hyde Foundation or our community partners,” Felicity said.
“One young person received HCT-funded support every 45 minutes last year.”
As one community partner said: “Your belief in us has changed lives. I’ll never forget the smile of an elderly woman who said, ‘I haven’t felt this seen in years.’ And the man who told us, ‘The doctor said I’d never walk again − look at me, I’m getting stronger, thanks to you.’ Those moments say it all.
"You’ve lit a spark that keeps growing − hope, dignity, and connection now reach places that were once quiet and forgotten. Thank you for being the heartbeat behind real change.”
HCT plans to spend £1m supporting Hyde’s customers and communities in 2025-26, including £326k in grants for individual customers and £485k in grants to community partners.
