Hundreds more affordable homes for Hove

09 April 2026 Building homes

We’ve started work on 306 low cost homes

Sackville Story

Homes for Brighton & Hove, our partnership with Brighton & Hove City Council, is building 306 affordable homes on the former Sackville Road Trading Estate in Hove.

A site visit was held on 8 April 2026 for Brighton & Hove councillors, as well as representatives from Hyde, Homes England and Moda Living, to see first-hand the progress being made.

There will be 183 homes for council rent, which will be let to people in housing need on the city’s housing register. Additionally, 123 shared ownership homes will be available through Hyde.

The homes will be energy efficient, using solar PV panels to reduce energy costs for residents, who will also receive bus or rail passes, bike vouchers, electric bike hire and car club membership, to encourage use of sustainable travel.

There’ll also be car club bays, electric vehicle charge points and extensive cycle parking. Proposals include landscaped courtyards with doorstep play equipment, seating and community growing space. Residents will also have direct access to shops and offices in Moda Living’s Hove Central neighbourhood next door.

Councillor Gill Williams, Cabinet Member for Housing at Brighton & Hove City Council, said: “I’m really pleased to see this amazing scheme get underway. With thousands of households on our waiting list, this is another example of how the Homes for Brighton & Hove partners are pooling their resources and expertise to build genuinely affordable housing for local people.”

Hyde Group Development Director, Jaime Buckley, said: “It’s harder than ever for people who work in Brighton & Hove to afford to live in the city, so we’re pleased to be able to start building these much-needed homes, nearly doubling the number of affordable homes delivered by our highly successful partnership.”

James Blakey, Director of Policy and Engagement at Moda Living, said: “We're lucky enough to have worked closely with the local community, council and stakeholders in Hove for a number of years, and we understand how important developments like this are in helping to create balanced, mixed-tenure neighbourhoods where communities can thrive.”

The homes at Sackville Road are due for completion in March 2029.
