Thanks to Hyde and social value, the Ringcross allotments in Islington received some much needed TLC
One of our partners, Avison Young, which is working on our Clapham Road regeneration project in Lambeth, contacted us as they wanted to do some volunteering as part of their social value commitment to us.
Given the number of community gardens that we manage and look after, we jumped at the chance of some work being carried out at the Ringcross Estate in Islington.
The allotments are managed by the Ringcross Tenants and Residents Association (TRA), and residents use them to grow fruit and vegetables. However, the allotments were becoming really overgrown, so residents weren’t using them as much as they could do.
So, six volunteers from Avison Young, along with some green-fingered residents from the estate, rolled up their sleeves to give the allotments a makeover. The work included clearing the overgrown path – so making it safe again for residents to use - and trimming bushes back. Ripe fruit and vegetables from the allotments were picked, which residents then took home to enjoy.
Frances, Chair of the TRA, said: “What a transformation. It was amazing to see Hyde and Avison Young come together to help bring this allotment back to life. Residents will now be able to come and enjoy this space.”
