A Hyde Charitable Trust (HCT) grant is helping disabled customers get the benefits and financial support they’re entitled to

“Understanding what benefits you’re entitled to, and applying for them, can be complex and overwhelming,” said Felicity Hunt, Hyde Communities and Social Impact Director.

“It’s important we help our customers navigate this often daunting process, which is why we were delighted to team up with Disability Peterborough.”

Disability Peterborough offers specialised support, home visits and a handyman service to help physically disabled people.

It used its HCT Evolve Fund grant to support some of our most vulnerable customers, including those living in sheltered housing.

More than 60 residents attended the sessions, where the team was able to assess who was eligible for Attendance Allowance, Personal Independence Payments and Universal Credit, and help them apply for benefits.

“We estimate that Disability Peterborough has helped customers claim more than £30,000 in previously unclaimed benefits already,” Felicity said.

Sandie Burns MBE, CEO of Disability Peterborough, said: “In the current financial climate, we felt it was important to carry out sessions at all of Hyde’s sheltered housing schemes in the Peterborough area.

"Making a difference is always worthwhile and helping disabled people to maximise their incomes is very rewarding.”
