Social purpose - why Hyde began

Hyde was established in 1967 by a group of professional businessmen who wanted to provide great quality homes for those left behind by the market. We are, and always have been, a social business. Our founders combined this strong social purpose with the entrepreneurial drive and professional skills to make it a reality. As we look ahead, we still have that blend at our core. It’s this that ensures our great intentions are matched by equally great actions, and lead to the greatest possible social impact.

Hear our inspirational founders Michael Hollingsworth, John Childs and Ted Watts talk about how we began 50 years ago in our short video.

A great home for everyone

We know that Hyde cannot solve the housing crisis on its own. The shortage of affordable homes in London and the South East of England is a huge and longstanding problem, which will only be solved if we all play our part and all work together. That includes government, developers, landlords, charities and residents themselves.
