Top tips for weathering wintry conditions

  • Heat your home to at least 18°C 
  • Put salt on your pathway to melt ice and snow
  • Check on elderly or vulnerable neighbours
  • Close internal doors to keep heat inside
  • Give yourself extra time when travelling in bad weather conditions, and bear in mind that transport delays and cancellations increase in freezing temperatures
  • Be extra vigilant if driving in snowy or icy conditions
  • Be cautious when walking on untreated pavements
  • Make sure that you have enough food to get you through a few days. You should also ensure you have necessary supplies of medication and essentials such as toilet paper or nappies.
