Going the extra mile to help our oldest residents

Our Tenancy Sustainment Adviser, Debbie Whitten, carried out a project to check in with residents aged 85 and over who live on her patch to find out if they were managing their tenancy or needed any support. 

Debbie helped 74 residents to resolve a variety of issues, which included:  

  • Arranging for smart meters to be installed 

  • Working with Hyde’s Property Services team to have railings installed, allowing easy access to gardens and communal stairways 

  • Putting residents in touch with Age UK for support 

  • Confirming dementia services in place  

  • Providing intercom instructions for the daughter of a resident 

  • Making social care referrals 

The daughter of one of our residents was particularly grateful for Debbie’s efforts. Her mother had been waiting for several months for an occupational therapy referral, Debbie was able to open the lines of communication and successfully put the resident’s daughter in contact with the person who could help get the ball rolling with the major adaptations her mum so desperately required.  

Based on the positive customer feedback we’ve received, we are looking at how we can continue delivering this project in the future.
