Our free online Universal Credit (UC) tool is designed to help and support you, if you’re applying for UC for the first time.
“It’s really important our customers claim all the benefits to which they’re entitled, but we know the UC application process can be complex and overwhelming for some people,” said Katie Ford, Hyde Senior Successful Tenancies Advisor.
“That’s why we developed the UC Helper, which is customers’ ‘friendly companion’, leading them through every step of their application. It’s free and anyone can use it – there’s no need to register or log in.”
The UC Helper explains how to create an online UC account, how to make a claim and how to verify your identity, as well as what to expect when attending an interview.
There’s a checklist to track your progress, plus tips for each stage. Importantly, it’s mobile-friendly, although it works just as well on a laptop or desktop PC.
The UC Helper was developed with customers and our frontline staff, so it’s very much a result of their input and expertise. It was funded with £35,000 from the Catalyst and the National Lottery Community Fund COVID-19 Digital Response programme.
Hyde customer Sandra Tomlinson, who helped develop the UC Helper, said: “The Universal Credit application process can be quite daunting but this tool really helps; I used to be scared of applying, but the tool makes it so much easier.”
