Hyde Property Service Administrator Ashley Stewart has been crowned Apprentice of the year at this year’s Chartered Institute of Housing South East Awards.
Ashley, one of 10 apprentices that began working with the Hyde Group in September 2015, said: “It’s brilliant to win this award. The apprentice programme has given me the opportunity to prove what I am capable of and enabled me to grow as a person. Importantly, it has been great to work with colleagues to help Hyde be more responsive and effective when dealing with our residents’ needs. The apprenticeship has set me up for, what I hope will be, a long and rewarding career.”
As well as securing a permanent job with Hyde last year, Ashley also studied for a BTEC National Diploma in Business Administration during his apprenticeship. He successfully completed the course 10 months ahead of schedule, by finishing coursework outside of working hours, so he could focus fully on his day job.
Emma Crowhurst, Hyde Property Services Team Leader, said: “We are delighted for Ashley. His performance has been exceptional since day one. He sets very high standards for himself and is always looking at ways to improve both his skills and our working processes.
“Ashley has been instrumental in improving a number of our processes, including out-of-hours working, which has resulted in a marked improvement in contractors’ performance. He has also developed new guides and training materials for colleagues – Ashley sets an example and he is a pleasure to have on the team.”
