Tis the season to be jolly safe

Posted on 12 December 2016

“There’s no denying that a Christmas tree and decorations bring festive cheer to a home,” says our Head of Compliance Morley Young. “Unfortunately, unsafe fairy lights and electrical decorations, overloaded plugs and unattended candles can all start house fires.

“We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable Christmas, so take care when putting decorations up: check lights and other electrical items are in good condition and remember to turn them off and unplug them before you go to bed or leave the house.”

“It’s also a great time to check all your smoke alarms are working. You should have one per floor of your home,” Morley says. “A new smoke alarm will make a wonderful early Christmas present for all the family – your local fire brigade will fit one free of charge!”

Our Christmas home safety page includes some easy-to-follow tips to ensure you have a happy and enjoyable time.
