Hyde Property Services Gas Production Team Leader Chris Irons has been named a finalist in this year’s Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) Rising Stars competition.
Chris, and his three fellow finalists, will face a number of challenges over the coming months, with the winner announced at the CIH Housing Conference and Exhibition in Manchester on 27 June, following a vote by Inside Housing readers. Tasks include an ethics interview, taking part in a Twitter debate and making a presentation to students on career opportunities in the housing sector.
Commenting on reaching the final, Chris, who leads a team of gas service engineers serving 8,000 Hyde properties in Hampshire, said: “If I win the Rising Star award, I hope to raise the important issue of the new ‘Right to buy’ scheme at a high level in the housing industry.”
He explained: “I believe local authorities, housing associations and the Government must learn from the original Right to buy scheme and work together to identify and prioritise suitable development land for local authority, rather than private sector, development, as this could go some way to help solve the housing crisis.”
HPS Managing Director Paul Woodham said: “Reaching the final is an outstanding achievement. I am sure Chris will do well in the coming tasks and wish him every success in the rest of the competition.”
Voting for the CIH Rising Stars 2016 is open to Inside Housing subscribers only. Subscribers should visit insidehousing.co.uk, where they can find out more about the finalists and cast their vote.
