MP for Hastings and Rye, Amber Rudd, visited residents at Marlborough House Friday 17 March. She joined them for an informal chat over a cup of tea and sausage rolls, and visited one of the newly refurbished flats.
Amber commented: “I remember the devastating effects that the 2013 fire had on residents and our local community. I was delighted to visit the reopened accommodation and meet some of those who were affected. The renovations have been beautifully finished and create a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere.
“Thank you to Tony and the team at Marlborough House for making me feel so welcome, and for showing me around one of the newly refurbished flats. I look forward to paying another visit later in the year once all forty flats are occupied.”
Marlborough House is an extra care scheme owned by the Hyde Group, located on Warrior Square in St Leonards-on-Sea. It has been fully restored after a devastating fire in 2013 and is now welcoming both former residents back into their homes as well as brand new ones.

We also thank her for the support she provided in helping us to overcome some of the obstacles in getting these residents back where they belong.

The accommodation at Marlborough House has been refurbished to a high standard. The building has a lot of character and the quality of the flats and communal areas make it a lovely place to live. It is in a great location and many areas have a fantastic outlook onto the gardens and to the sea.
So far, 17 of the original residents who were relocated have returned and are settling in. Six new residents will be moving in soon.
The scheme consists of 40 one and two bedroom self-contained flats along with a range of communal areas including a hair salon, IT suite, lounges, laundry, buggy store, meeting rooms and a café.
