Since the introduction of our social value approach last July, a number of organisations in our supply chain have signed up to deliver a range of social value activities and opportunities that would benefit Hyde residents, local communities and VCSE (voluntary, charity and social enterprise) organisations. To date, this has produced almost £200,000 of social value.
Our new, flexible Social Value Matrix and Points System has helped to ensure offers of social value are proportionate to the size of a supplier’s contract, but - most importantly – ensuring that the most often requested opportunities are available to beneficiaries.
At the beginning of June 2018, we published our first Social Value Report. This provided some insight into the social value pledged by the organisations signed up to the new approach, and their delivery progress so far.
- £20,025 financial contribution for project sponsorship deposited
- 17 closed recruitment vacancies, with 8.5 jobs created
- 25 small improvement jobs completed
- 5 large improvement jobs carried out
- 18 sessions of training and workshops delivered
- 7 benefited from mentoring, shadowing and work placements
Contractor Engie worked especially hard to place six local residents into jobs or give them apprenticeship opportunities within a 12 month period.
Chichi Onyenemelu, Social Value Adviser, said: “It is very positive to see our suppliers working with us for the benefit of local people and services. Despite our social value approach still being in its infancy, we are pleased that definite progress has been made, and are confident that even greater levels of delivery will be evident moving forward.”
All the social value opportunities committed to by suppliers are held in Hyde’s Social Value Vault. It currently holds a number of work placements/shadowing opportunities, training courses, skills share/pro bono opportunities, improvement/refurbishment jobs and the provision of equipment. These offers are from all areas where Hyde has a presence.
