We are proud to support The Packington Gallery, a pop-up art space open throughout April in the former Packington Estate marketing suite at 8 Prebend Street, Islington. Four exhibitions of film, sound, sculpture, painting and performance will show work by artists living and working on and around the Packington. The gallery is part of PACK_ITON, a long term community arts project on, in, at, for, with and about the Packington, as the estate regeneration is completed.
Artist Shepherd Manyika, whose Sound-Opus forms part of the first exhibition, said: “People welcomed me into their homes sharing sounds and stories of their everyday. The Packington Gallery allows my sound portrait to be played back into the Packington, and for a wider audience to come and sit with the sound.”
Artist Claudia Janke said: “This gallery considers local in the middle of a metropolis that so often is preoccupied with the international. In these times of uncertainty art can reach across social divides and bring people together, and it has certainly done this for us last summer.”
Bernice Ramchandani, Hyde’s Head of Construction and Projects in London said: “We are excited that The Packington Gallery is breathing new life into our marketing suite and give it a renewed sense of purpose, showcasing the talents of our residents and artists to the community and beyond. It’s great to see all the amazing creativity on the estate.”
The Packington Gallery is open every Tuesday, 6-8pm and Wednesdays-Sundays, 12pm-5pm from 2 - 28 April. Alongside the exhibitions there is public programme of workshops, school visits, talks and performances. For more information visit the PACK_ITON website.
