The Packington Estate, Islington had yet another reason to celebrate last week, with the grand opening of the Canalside Square new open space attended by residents and local councillors.
Sited next to the Regent’s canal, the park features grassy mounds for picnics, seating that maximises the path of the sun, seasonal planting and a nature themed mosaic by Islington artist Tessa Hunkin.
The Packington Estate began its life in 2007, and now has 800 homes with 500 of them provided as affordable homes. The park was a joint effort between Hyde, the Town Hall and development firms Rydon and Atkins. It was officially opened on 17 November by Cllr Claudia Webbe, Islington Council's executive member for environment and transport who said “This is a fantastic new space for local people, and we look forward to it becoming as loved and well-used as Islington’s other local spaces”.
