I feel cautious through inexperience and uncomfortable as a white person offering views about the brutal murder of George Floyd and the backdrop of a historical narrative it sadly reflects and represents. However I know that I need to ensure Hyde’s voice is a clear one of commitment to the Black and broader BAME community.
The Black community is rightly speaking up and out, and at Hyde we stand in solidarity with our BAME staff, residents and communities in holding firm against racism. How our customers feel is important to us – not just as a resident but in all senses. We have a fundamental belief in equality and the right to empowerment. We have absolutely zero tolerance to racism and will continue to strive for eliminating bias. I relistened to Martin Luther King’s 1963 Lincoln Memorial Speech with my children last night. “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” We are sadly not there yet but it doesn’t mean we cannot and should not wish to realise that dream.
Hyde stands with the BAME community now and forever. We are an ally. We are a friend. We recognise that you are a whole person, and we are here to support and assist the whole person.
