Rochester Riverside shortlisted in Housing Design Awards 2020

Posted on 22 April 2020

We’re delighted to announce that Phase 1B at Rochester Riverside, our flagship regeneration scheme in Medway that we have delivered with Countryside Properties, has been shortlisted in the Housing Design Awards in the ‘Completed’ category.

Designed by architects BPTW, Phase 1 & 2 at Rochester Riverside provides 327 homes, 58 of which are affordable. This phase is part of a development which, when complete, will provide over 1,400 homes, 295 which will be owned and managed by Hyde, and 8,000 sq m of commercial space.

A previously derelict brownfield site, when complete Rochester Riverside will feature 10 acres of landscaped and green open space such as play areas and parks, whilst the new 2.5km public riverside walkway will open up a key part of the riverside for the first time, meaning that the riverfront can now be enjoyed by the whole community. Testament to the extensive consultation undertaken on the project, the scheme was influenced by the local architecture, creating a new urban quarter that echoes Rochester’s rich history.

The Housing Design Awards operate as a cross-industry partnership between government, the private sector and all five major professional institutions - RICS, RIBA, RPTI, Landscape Institute and Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists. The awards celebrate skill an innovation in housebuilding and planning.

Guy Slocombe, Hyde’s Chief Investment Officer, said: “Over the next 12 years, Rochester Riverside will create a new mixed-tenure community of up to 1,400 new homes with a new primary school and nursery, as well as a hotel, retail, and over 10 acres of open space and landscaping. Hyde is incredibly proud to be a part of this. The fact that Rochester Riverside is a finalist in the Housing Design Awards is testament to the high-quality design of the development. With the first affordable homes due to complete later in the year, and the fact that we recently opened our Rochester office in the development, 2020 is already proving itself to be an important year for the development and its growing community.”

The winners will be announced later this year.
