We are proud to announce our shortlisting as one of Property Week’s prestigious RESI Award 2018 finalists in the Joint Victories category.
Our partnership with Rydon at Packington phase four was named as a finalist thanks to our innovative 50/50 Joint Venture as well as our approach of involving residents on the Packington Estate at every step of the way.
The regeneration of the former Packington Estate located near the Regent's canal in Islington, started in 2007 and is set to complete in 2019. The project replaces 538 structurally defective social housing flats with 300 outright sale properties, built to cross subsidise 491 social housing units, a new community centre, youth centre and shops; all of which help create a vibrant new neighbourhood.
Smaller scale family homes including 32 three, four, five and six bed houses located around the edge of the estate blend in with the surrounding Georgian neighbourhood.
The success of the project was, in large part, thanks to the resident board comprising tenants and leaseholders who had the power to influence design, challenge decisions and monitor the professional team’s performance.
Jan Durbridge, chair of the Resident Board said: “The completion of phase four has transformed the original estate from isolated blocks of intimidating and soulless housing into a thriving community with real heart and purpose. I never thought I would be able to influence the build so much, we have had a real say and they respect the fact that we know what works best for this area, because we have lived here all our lives.”
Andy Page, Design & Build Manager at Rydon said: “Having the residents on board from the beginning kept us all on our toes and we learnt to see things from their perspective. When challenges arose, the strength and effectiveness of the partnership became apparent."
Bernice Ramchandani, Head of Construction at the Hyde Group said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for this prestigious award. It is testament to the hard work, commitment and passion of our team; all of whom were dedicated to delivering a great new development, supporting the local community and working closely with the residents who were fundamental to the project’s success.”
Hyde has now been invited to showcase the scheme at the RESI Convention which takes place on 12-14 September at the Celtic Manor Resort in Wales, where the delegates will have the opportunity to view all finalists and cast their votes. The two category winners will be unveiled at the gala dinner.
