We’re sad to announce that one of our founders, and Hyde Life President, Michael Hollingsworth, died unexpectedly on Saturday 5 March 2022.
Michael (on the left of the photo), served as Hyde Chair for 29 years and was awarded an MBE for services to housing. We’re proud that he spoke at our 50th anniversary celebrations in 2017 and attended our staff conference last year.
Michael, along with John Childs, Ted Watts and others, established Hyde in 1967 to help people excluded from the mainstream housing market, by providing them with decent, affordable homes and managing them properly. This is the social purpose that remains at the heart of everything we do.
Co-founder Ted Watts said: “Michael had a cool, calm approach and a firm hand on the reins. Hyde grew steadily during his time in charge, with many other housing associations approaching us to come under the Hyde banner.”
Mike Kirk, Chair of the Hyde Group said: “I hope that Michael’s family and friends can take some comfort from what an enormous contribution Michael made to improving the lives of tens, if not hundreds of thousands, of people. A fabulous legacy that we are the current custodians of.”
Our thoughts are with Michael’s family at this difficult time. He'll be greatly missed.
You can watch a short video of the three founders talking about how and why they established Hyde.
