We are proud to announce that we have won the award for ‘Best Inhouse Internal Communications Team’ in the ‘CovidComms Awards’ (run by CorpComms Magazine). The awards celebrate ‘brilliance in communication during the pandemic’.
The award recognised how we responded to the crisis affecting colleagues and customers, while keeping staff productivity and morale high.
Supporting colleagues, many of whom had been affected personally by the pandemic, and maintaining mental wellbeing in a ‘virtual’ workplace, was a priority. We knew that it would be essential to keep morale high to ensure that we continued to deliver first class services to our customers.
As an example, during ‘total’ lockdown, we concentrated on exercise that could be done at home – one of our directors even delivered live yoga classes. We used our intranet and Workplace by Facebook (our private social network), to communicate openly and regularly, posting video interviews and holding Q&A sessions with our Executive Leadership Team.
We wanted to keep colleagues and customers informed of government advice in a timely and engaging way. Our CEO recorded videos straight after press briefings so colleagues could watch it that evening if they wanted to, or first thing the next morning. This ensured that these messages could then be delivered from colleagues to customers appropriately, for example via our website or by letter, so customers would know how their services would be impacted.
Our Junior Board also developed initiatives to help maintain colleagues’ wellbeing throughout the pandemic. They created Hyde’s Home Marathon – with staff sharing their daily runs/walks/cycles – raising over £4,000 for foodbanks.
Carol Jones, Director of Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs for Hyde said: “We are thrilled that our hard work has been recognised.
“We couldn’t have done it without colleagues’ input, enthusiasm and support. I’d like to thank everyone for their Workplace videos, miles walked, cycled and kayaked. Colleagues took part in Q&As, nominated their heroes and sent in photos. Thank you to everyone across Hyde for getting involved.”
In winning the award, we beat finalists including names such as Lloyds Banking Group, Schroders, Santander and DHL. Congratulations to all the winners!
